Endless growth column / 2025
The “Endless growth column” is an installation constructed from 8 individual bronze take away boxes. These mundane, ephemeral, mass-produced objects, become a symbolic critique of capitalism and its relentless pursuit of endless growth pointing to the culture of disposability and overconsumption inherent in capitalist economies.
The column’s towering form mirrors the aspiration for continuous expansion and the illusion of limitless progress within capitalist ideology. Just as take away boxes are flimsy and destined for disposal, the column evokes a sense of fragility and unsustainability, challenging the idea that endless growth is feasible or desirable.
The installation draws a conceptual and formal parallel to Constantin Brancusi’s “Endless column”. While Brancusi’s column reflects purity and the boundless possibilities of human creativity, the “Endless growth column” symbolises a more fragile and problematic form of infinity, one rooted in unsustainable consumption, waste, and a cycle of constant production for short-term gain.
