Brextrip stamps / London, UK / 2021
The UK’s decision to leave the EU has been a turbulent experience, with many feeling it’s been an extremely chaotic and frustrating journey. To encapsulate this experience and commemorate 5 years of socio-economic hallucination since the Brexit referendum, Andrei created a limited edition set of Brextrip stamps.
The project aims to capture the shared experiences of the Brexit journey: a bad trip with highs of patriotic-paranoid delirium, and lows of numb bureaucratic boredom.
With one glaring gap in the 7x4 postal sheet, the rest of the stamps symbolise the remaining 27 member states of the EU and allude to the conventional LSD format.
Prime Minister Theresa May's awkward dance performance hints to the deceptiveness of the whole Brexit experiment. She dances not only on the rhythms of the UK's departure from the EU, but on those of a failed nationalist experience that left her country deeply divided.
The Brextrip stamps were produced at the official printer of the Romanian Postal Office and were available to purchase as 27 limited edition sheets of 27 stamps.
